Look to the land for your inspiration when directing the custom design of your home in Assiniboine Landing. Take into account the contours and curves, views and seasons, play of light and shadow, the textures, colours and heritage of this land.

Draw on all of that richness when thinking of size, shape, orientation and building materials. Consider weathered wood accents and cedar shakes. Granite, fieldstone, shale, Tyndall Stone or brick for their strength and design qualities. Take your colour palette from Nature: the golden hues, ochres and russets of the grasslands, the vibrant greens of the wetlands, the blacks of the soil, the rugged grays and browns of the thick tree trunks.

Architectural and design guidelines have been established, to ensure a compatible architectural expression for this unique neighbourhood. While each home will vary in design, according to the particular needs of its owners and the characteristics of the home sites, all should share a high standard of design and construction. Therefore, each proposed home design will be evaluated by Qualico and its Design Consultant for compatibility and appropriateness of scale, proportion, massing, details and materials.

Three suggested architectural styles: Modern, Prairie and Craftsman, identified in the Community Development Guidelines, (please see Downloads), are not to be viewed as absolutes for your home design. These are meant merely as reference for the characteristic building massing, composition and ornamentation that will help create and maintain Assiniboine Landing’s distinctive look as a neighbourhood of quality.

To design and build your dream home is a challenging but very rewarding creative collaboration. Your team will include a designer/architect, a landscape architect, a builder as well as an Assiniboine Landing Design Consultant.
