Vision

In total, there are only 52 lots on Assiniboine Landing’s 52 acres, with half the lots along the river and the other half backing onto Public Reserve. Gracing the 18 acres devoted to Public Reserve is a combination of hardwood forest and treed shelterbelts of maples, ash, basswood and oak. Walking trails wind through the Reserve and down to the river, where the riverbank and woods have been maintained in their natural state.

The vision for Assiniboine Landing is to introduce houses and lifestyles that harmonize with the natural setting and build on the community’s rural tradition. Through Community Development Guidelines, homeowners will be encouraged to embrace a land ethic that promotes sustainability.

For example, each home site is just over half an acre, only part of which will be manicured yard. (Most homeowners today don’t care to spend a lot of time on yard work.) The natural buffer zones along the sides and back of each lot, which will be planted with native grasses, wildflowers, trees and shrubs, bear a double benefit. The natural borders reduce yard maintenance requirements and provide a transit and habitat area for wildlife. This will help sustain a healthy ecosystem in Assiniboine Landing, while freeing up time for each homeowner.
